









"China’s Leather Exports Continue Decline While Titanium Ore Imports Shift: Trade Surplus Narrows from January–August 2025"

From January to August 2025, the year-on-year decline in the national leather industry's exports widened, while the year-on-year contraction in imports continued to narrow.
From January to August 2025, the total export value of leather products in the national leather industry reached US$57.13 billion, a year-on-year decrease of 8.5%; the total import value reached US$10.29 billion, a year-on-year decrease of 12.6%. The trade surplus reached US$46.85 billion, a year-on-year decrease of 7.6%, accounting for 6.0% of the national total trade surplus.
Among the major export products, the two largest categories were footwear and travel goods and luggage, accounting for 50.7% and 36.1% of the total leather industry exports, respectively. Their year-on-year declines were 8.5% and 11.5%, respectively, an increase of 1.2 percentage points and 0.5 percentage points compared to the January-July period.
China imported approximately 339,700 tons of titanium ore in August 2025, a decrease of 14.07% month-over-month.
Titanium Ore Import Data
According to customs data, China imported approximately 413,600 tons of titanium ore in August 2025, a year-on-year decrease of 33.82% and a month-over-month increase of 21.76%. The top three importing countries were Mozambique (214,092.70 tons), Senegal (56,262.492 tons), and Australia (41,071.37 tons), accounting for 51.76%, 13.60%, and 9.93% of August's total imports, respectively.
Total titanium ore imports from January to August 2025 were approximately 3.3355 million tons, an increase of approximately 20,000 tons, or 0.62%, compared to the previous year. The top three importing countries from January to August were Mozambique, Australia, and Norway, accounting for 45.39%, 16.27%, and 7.82%, respectively.
Compared with the same period last year, the top three countries with the largest increase were Australia, Senegal and Sierra Leone; the top three countries with the largest decrease were Vietnam, Egypt and Norway.
